The challenges facing us in life are many. There are constant demands made of us as individuals, couples and in our families. We find ourselves stressed, tired and with little time for ourselves. My goal is to provide a safe, caring and confidential place where you can build skills, develop options, resolve conflicts and feel more clear and competent in life.  My approach is optimistic, present-focused and compassionate. Through therapy you can discover your personal strengths and live an intentional life full of meaning and self-fulfillment.

Prior to obtaining degrees in Psychology and Marriage and Family Therapy, I served on active duty in the United States Air Force.  After a distinguished and fulfilling career in the USAF, I retired in 2012.  I now enjoy working with a variety of clients in the Olympia and surrounding areas as a clinical intern with Dawn Stremel, MA, LMFT. With compassion and understanding I provide a collaborative, personalized approach tailored to help each individual, couple, or family build on their strengths and attain the growth they are committed to accomplishing.  My particular training has made me especially adept at helping people be effective in creating the type of life they want to live by increasing their ability to be mindful and by utilizing specific skills to regulate emotion, tolerate pain and distress, and improve their quality of interpersonal relationships.  My domestic violence, family and intergenerational violence, and relational violence advocacy, training, and public speaking began in 2007 with the Department of Defense outreach programs.  I also have extensive experience and training in suicide ideation/suicide prevention/suicide training, and combat related trauma/combat related symptomatic violence.

I practice post-modern, holistic, systemic psychotherapy.  My services include short and long-term psychotherapy for individuals, couples, and families as well as psycho-educational training.  My personal style is direct, challenging and engaging, while being compassionate, caring and encouraging.  I am trained and skilled in a number of different therapeutic modalities and shape my therapeutic approach to fit the needs of my client.  I believe that when a client makes the difficult decision to seek out therapy and open themselves up to me, they are embracing the possibility of change. I further believe that with therapy my clients can grow and enhance themselves and their relationships.  It is my privilege to help people create the type of changes they want in their lives.

I work with a range of emotional and behavioral issues, providing therapy services for individuals, families, and couples that span from depression and grief/loss to parenting support, couples/marriage counseling and beyond. In a comfortable and supportive atmosphere, I offer a highly personalized approach tailored to each of my client’s individual needs.  I have an ample breadth of experience addressing a wide variety of issues including relationship concerns, anxiety, panic attacks, sexuality issues/sex therapy, bipolar disorder, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorders (ADD/ADHD), schizophrenia, PTSD, obsessive compulsive disorder, anger management, and more.

I have additional specialized training in Mindfulness Based Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Emotionally Focused Therapy.

Models I utilize with clients include, Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Family Systems Therapy and many others.

Professional organizations I am a member of include the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, the American Psychological Association, and the Washington Association for Marriage and Family Therapy.
